Who it is for
Visitors and New Yorkers who want a readable, printable reference rather than a brochure, and anyone hunting for a restaurant by cuisine, borough or kosher status who wants to know which honour put it on the list.
How it works
The guide is static. Every card, description and picture is written into the page by a generator from the guide’s data, so the book prints, searches and reads without JavaScript; the scripts only add a detail sheet, sorting, find and a lightbox. Nothing is read at run time — there is no live feed.
The register is a separate page with all 1,748 rows in its markup. Its script adds find, borough, section and price shelves, the kosher switch, paging and a detail sheet built from each row’s own attributes; the code notes that shipping the register a second time as JSON would add most of a megabyte.
Each row records the honours that put it there — The Infatuation (322 citations), MICHELIN Bib Gourmand 2025 (83), Time Out New York (79), a MICHELIN star in 2025 (51), Eater NY 38 (43), kosher directories such as the Vaad Harabonim of Queens (41), and others. For address and phone, 1,512 rows are matched to the City of New York’s register of licensed food service establishments by CAMIS number; the other 236 are proved by a source link instead. The original guide’s frozen social feed is kept but labelled as a snapshot, and its stock placeholder pictures were dropped.

NYC Health — ABCEats inspection results
checked 27 Sep 2026The Health Department’s inspection results and letter grades for the city’s roughly 29,000 restaurants. Violations carry points, and the lower the score, the better the grade.

- A curated shortlist: each of the 1,748 rows is there because a named list put it there, and it says which.
- Photographs for 714 rows, neighbourhood and price, and kosher status for 221.
Where it falls short
- Not every row is registry-checked, though the register’s description says each is “checked against the city’s licence records”: 236 of 1,748 are proved by a source link instead, and some, such as Masa and Meju, carry no phone number.
- Nothing is live — no events, opening hours or inspection grades — and the register was built on 16 August 2026. The lede promises “the ultimate NYC Big Apple experience in 2026” without a dated what’s-on.
- The register is heavy on a phone: 1,279,671 bytes, whatever the filter.
- The frozen feed is explained in its section, but one card still reads “just now” and “LIVE” with no date on it.
